At CrossMovement Dance, we are excited to offer

two options for ballet dancers:

  1. Ballet Technique Track only: This is for the dancer that wishes to improve their ballet technique, but does not wish to achieve pointe status.
  2. Pointe Track: This is for the dancer that wishes to reach pointe status and / or pre-professional status.

Dancers coming from another studio must be evaluated by our Ballet Mistress or Assistant Ballet Mistress to see where they best fit in our program. Coming already ‘en pointe’ does not guarantee pointe status at CMD if requirements from our evaluation are not met.

Each ballet student/parent will be sent a letter of intent to discuss which track they wish to pursue.

Ballet Class Descriptions:

CMD Ballet Technique Classes 1 & 2 are a more in-depth option for improving ballet technique and/or preparing for pointe work. Dancers must be at least 9 years old to begin Ballet Tech 1.

Students begin this more intensive study in the Ballet Technique 1 class, a 60-minute class meeting once per week where they master the fundamentals of ballet - posture, placement, turnout, basic terminology, and etiquette - while being evaluated on their understanding and execution of these elements every 6-8 weeks.

Once they reach a score of 90 points on their evaluation, students are eligible for Ballet Technique 2, a 75-minute class meeting 2 times per week. Students are required to take both classes per week if their goal is pointe. At this level, they continue to build on the foundation laid in Ballet Technique 1 while refining their technique, working at faster tempos in more complicated combinations, and learning a wider range of more advanced skills while continuing to evaluate every 6-8 weeks.

When they reach a score of 90 points on their evaluation for Level 2, have at least 3 years of ballet technique training, and are at least 12 years old, they are considered eligible for Pre-Pointe - a 30-minute class meeting once per week. In this class, they perform more specific exercises and skills designed to fine-tune their technique while being evaluated every 6-8 weeks in the final stretch of their training before being eligible for pointe.

Upon reaching a score of 90 points on their pre-pointe evaluation, they are eligible for Pointe and will be coached through the process of purchasing and preparing pointe shoes for their first class if they choose this path.

Students are required to continue taking the Ballet Technique 2 class and maintain an evaluation score of 90 points or higher throughout their pre-pointe and pointe training to help them maintain their technique for dancing on pointe. This process helps ensure the safety and success of our dancers in their journey to Pointe and/or Pre-Professional level Ballet Technique

Please let us know if you have questions or would like to set up an evaluation for placement.
